Job Description

On behalf of our client, a custom machine build/integrator, who has over 45 years of experience in the industry, we are currently recruiting for an experienced Controls Engineer to join their team. If you have a passion and drive to keep up with industry trends and standards this is the position for you!

NOTE:

  • Onsite
  • Must be willing and able to travel internationally (up to 30% - travel for 2 weeks max for the project at customer site), without restrictions, effective on the start date
  • Successful candidate will be required to complete and pass a Drug Screening
  • Valid driver's license is required as well as a clean driving record

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establishing standards and resource planning for the electrical design, development, improvement, and programming of manufacturing control systems at company facilities and customer locations
  • Integrate controls with the robotic and PLC team, plan out and put in place system controls per customer specifications and all applicable local and federal safety regulations
  • Establish a resource plan for designated projects with detailed specifications for hardware and software required to meet customer objectives
  • Develop simulation and offline programming for PLC and Robotics (Fanuc and ABB family of robots with knowledge of Kuka robots)
  • Robot system configuration and setup per defined parameters, working envelops
  • Robot programming and debugging on the controllers and end-of-the-arm tooling
  • Support design of electrical and programmable logic controls (PLC) schematics in AutoCAD Electrical and/or E-Plan software
  • Work with manufacturing engineering to develop assembly process controls to meet design objectives
  • Design, implement, and debug PLC programming (RSLogix 500/ Studio 5000 - Siemens S7/TIA Portal – Omron – GE Emerson)
  • Design and integrate HMI interfacing (Factory Talk – WinCC Flex 2008 – TIA Portal – Omron – Maple – VB Scripts – GE Emerson)
  • Program input and output control devices, vision systems, and traceability hardware (cameras, barcode readers, and printers)
  • Setup and program torque controllers and tools for tightening applications (Atlas Copco, Desoutter)
  • Safety devices integration and setup (light curtains, area scanners), Keyence, Banner, Sick, Omron
  • Perform on-site installation and training of equipment for customers in the North American Region
  • Design and program controls for pneumatic systems (Festo, SMC)
  • Program and integrate tools into compression presses for interior automotive components (lamination and edge wrapping tools)
  • Setup and integrate PLC to robots’ communication and interface for assembly equipment (pick and place, cutting and inspection)
  • Integrate remote input/ output modules for device communication (ProfiBus, ProfiNet, EthernetIP)
  • Work and coordinate activities with external suppliers/ vendors to define the most optimal software and hardware solution for process control
  • Interface and support equipment development with customer representatives at companies' USA facilities and customer locations
  • Travel to customer sites for installation of new equipment and/or support of engineering changes implementation as required
  • Use of Microsoft Office Software to prepare controls documentation and communicate with internal and external customers

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Mechatronics Engineering Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Controls Engineer experience with a Machine / Build Integrator
    • Demonstrated experience working on designing and programming Machine Build projects from scratch to fulfill customer requirements
    • Robot Programming with Fanuc, ABB robots. Preference is given to candidates with knowledge of Kuka robots
    • Develop simulation and offline programming for PLC and Robotics (Fanuc and ABB family of robots with knowledge of Kuka robots)
    • Design, implement, and debug PLC Programming from scratch (RSLogix 500/ Studio 5000 - Siemens S7/TIA Portal – Omron – GE Emerson)
    • Design and integrate HMI interfacing (Factory Talk – WinCC Flex 2008 – TIA Portal – Omron – Maple – VB Scripts – GE Emerson)
    • Support design of electrical and programmable logic controls (PLC) schematics in AutoCAD Electrical and/or E-Plan software

  • Setup and program torque controllers and tools for tightening applications (Atlas Copco, Desoutter, Stanley Torque Controllers)
  • Accustomed to interfacing with customers on their needs and providing solutions on their automation projects/needs
  • Successful candidate will have a passion for Robotics and Controls and staying on top of industry trends and new technologies
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams in building the equipment and manufacturing teams at customer facilities

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Masters Degree in Electrical and Controls Engineering Field
