Job Description

Our Tier 1 client, a leading supplier in the design & manufacturing of exterior structural components (plastics/metal), is recruiting a dynamic and driven Product Engineer (Sealing – Rubber/Plastic) to join their team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Development of new or modifications of existing Sealing products for the door systems
  • Utilizing rubber and plastic injection mold, extrusion dies and production equipment from conception through full production implementation
  • Support as the integrated engineer for OEM programs at their facilities. Works with OEM or Tier One to consult in the development process to ensure that the product meets all requirements of the customer specifications, manufacturability, tooling feasibility and quality objectives.
  • Conceives and develops new products to meet objectives of management/customers by government, customer specifications and awareness of market needs. Discloses these ideas to engineering management, and evaluates their feasibility on an assigned basis (models, vehicle installations, etc.)
  • Resolve issues, and technical problems through the application of product knowledge of exterior sealing systems, engineering education, knowledge of industry practice and an awareness of new technologies
  • Supporting all technical base processes including, Project timing, DVP, DFMEA, VA/VE, Benchmarking, APQP, IMDS, Packaging, General tooling and assembly
  • Provides professional engineering assistance & consultation to other departments on technical matters relating to Exterior and Interior components with support to the sales and Cost estimation on an assigned basis
  • Organizes technical projects (program requests, cost estimates, program plans, etc.). Evaluate alternatives and initiate activities necessary to meet project objectives within a time and monetary budget. Reports weekly on progress and workload status
  • Coordinates projects, with guidance from supervisor and Lead engineers, from design through production start-up, including prototype build, testing and establishment to specifications to achieve required performance and reliability, manufacturability and market competitiveness
  • Interprets specifications and provides technical direction to design and tooling teams. Coordinates with other departments for an orderly transition of the project and has first article approval authority
  • Documents technical aspects of assigned projects and ensures that data is properly retained. Visits customers with Sales or Senior Engineering personnel on an assigned basis. Recommends design approaches and solutions to technical problems directly to customers on routine matters and obtains assistance from peers, other departments and engineering management on critical issues

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering related field with 2-5 years of experience as a Product Engineer with Sealing (Rubber or Plastic) components
  • A minimum of 2 years experience with either Catia V5 or UG NX 11 with the ability to review designs, cut sections, etc.
  • Knowledge in the selection of various materials (plastics and metals) and processes in a manufacturing setting are key areas that will set apart potential candidates
  • Experience designing for automated assembly and low cost is a plus
  • Knowledge of Team Center and GM ECR process as an integrated supplier
  • Experience in automotive interior and exterior type components with plastic injection, two-shot injection, roll forming, stamping, and aluminum extrusion is preferred
  • Familiar with FEA Analysis for CLD, Insertion/Extraction is preferred
  • Understanding in the following areas: APQP, PPAP, DVP&R, DFMEA, PFMEA, GD&T
  • Experience with B-side attaching scheme development – attachment of parts to sheet metal and/or other parts in an assembly preferred
  • Familiar with 5S philosophy, 6 Sigma & Lean Manufacturing. BOM Management – Engineering Change Control
  • Strong technical ability with knowledge of materials and manufacturing and assembly processes
  • A high level of self-motivation and bias for action
  • Strong communication, presentation and organization skills
  • Ability to directly interact with customers while providing a professional image
